Accessibility at Netherby Hall – Grounds and Access Overview
Netherby Hall is accessed via electric entrance gates, leading onto a long, sweeping tarmacked driveway that approaches the main house. This surface is generally smooth and suitable for most vehicles and for guests using mobility aids such as walking sticks or wheelchairs.
Across the wider estate, paths and additional driveways are a mix of tarmac and gravel. Some areas — particularly within the gardens and stable yard — include cobblestones or loose gravel, which may feel uneven and could be more challenging for wheelchair users or guests with limited mobility.
The Walled Garden has gravel pathways throughout, with occasional slight gradients and uneven sections, and may not be fully accessible for all mobility devices.
We recommend that guests with specific accessibility needs contact us in advance so we can discuss individual requirements and help ensure a safe and comfortable visit.
Car Parking
Parking is available throughout the grounds, including spaces close to or directly outside many of the apartments, as well as designated guest car parks. Parking surfaces vary and include gravel, tarmac and cobblestones.
If you have particular parking or accessibility needs, please let us know ahead of your arrival and we will be happy to help make suitable arrangements.
Reception
Reception is accessed from the main gravelled driveway and requires guests to go up two steps before entering through a standard-sized door. A temporary ramp is available on request for those who require step-free access.
Inside, the reception area has a carpeted floor and is furnished with two moveable armless dining chairs and a table, allowing for flexible and comfortable seating.
If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or prefer written communication, we are very happy to assist via email or in writing during your visit.
Please contact us in advance if you have any specific requirements or would like assistance on arrival.
Gun Room
The Gun Room is located two doors down from reception and is accessed directly from the main gravelled driveway. The entrance is level, with no steps, and the door is wider than average to allow easier access for wheelchair users and those using mobility aids.
The sandstone flooring inside may have some natural unevenness. Motion-activated lighting is fitted to improve visibility.
For self check-in, key safes are located on the wall just above head height behind the Gun Room door. Guest toilets are also located off the Gun Room and feature tiled flooring.
If you have any questions about access or the key safes, please feel free to contact us in advance.
