Enjoy two immersive days learning botanical illustration with Marianne Hazlewood in Netherby Hall’s stunning Victorian Walled Garden. This hands-on class begins with drawing on day one and continues with watercolour painting on day two. Explore the gardens, work in the Summer House and Orangery, and develop your technique in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Tickets are available by calling 01228 792732 or emailing bookings@netherbyhall.co.uk. Accommodation at a reduced rate is also available for participants—please enquire when booking.

The Victorian Walled Garden has undergone extensive restoration under Head Gardener Lorraine Pearson. Visitors can now enjoy beautifully reinstated features and abundant cutting beds, which provide produce to the nearby Michelin-starred Penton Bridge Inn throughout the year.
On day one, we’ll begin with an introduction to botanical illustration in the Summer House, followed by a short walk through the gardens with Lorraine and Marianne. Participants can select a specimen from the cutting beds and begin preparatory sketches, learning to observe botanical details and transfer them onto watercolour paper.

Lunch is served in the Orangery on both days. In the afternoon sessions, Marianne will guide the group through techniques for colour matching using watercolours. With her support, you’ll begin painting your chosen specimen, learning how to match shades and tones.
The experience includes examples of Marianne’s award-winning botanical illustrations, alongside a display of images featuring the Walled Garden, Summer House, and last year’s blooming beds.
Each day runs for approximately six hours. Botanical illustration is a meditative and detailed process, so expect to take your artwork home to complete. Materials are provided for the class, but you're welcome to bring your own, and additional supplies will be available for purchase if you'd like to continue at home.

- Note: Activities in the Summer House are weather dependent and may be relocated indoors to the Orangery if needed.
